Important Irish Road Laws

• Seat belts are compulsory and need to worn by everyone in a car.
• Children 12 years of age and younder are not permitted in the front seats of your car.
• The use of mobiles (cell phones) is no longer permitted for drivers in Ireland unless a hands free handset is in use.
• The legal alcohol tolerance limit in Ireland is 0.08% (subject to change).

Ireland Driving Tips

All traffic in Ireland drives on the left hand side of the road. If you have booked a car rental in Ireland and have never driven on Irish roads before we highly recommend that you practice driving on the left hand-side.

Different locations in Ireland will have roundabouts and can be confusing for anyone who has never driven on a roundabout. Traffic flows clockwise on a roundabout and you must give the right of way to all traffic coming from the right.

Road speeds in Ireland is now measured in KM/H and vary in different locations for example: Motorways is 120KM/H, open roads 100 KM/H and built up areas is 50KM/H. * Please note these speed limits are subject to change.
